Look, this card is lovely. Nice design, quality paper, and just sentimental enough to make Mum tear up without tipping into cringe. Ticks all the boxes. But—and it’s a big but—it’s not last year’s Freddie Mercury ‘Mamaaa’ card, is it? That card was legendary. That card had range. That card hit emotional and comedic highs. You don’t just follow up Freddie Mercury belting out “Mamaaaa” on the front of a card with a mildly witty pun about tea and hugs. It’s like going from a West End show to your local am-dram panto. Still sweet. Still charming. Just… not iconic. That said, Mum loved it. She said it was “nice,” which, in Mum-speak, means “acceptable and won’t be mentioned passive-aggressively in six months.” It’s sturdy, came with an envelope (always helpful), and didn’t look like I picked it up from the corner shop on the way over. So I suppose it did its job. Buy it if you’re not ready to peak too early again. But if you’re chasing the glory of the Freddie card? Mate, you’re chasing a high that may never return.
